Clubs Terms 1 & 2

We have a wide range of clubs at Headley Park with something to interest everyone. Whether you want to improve your sports ability, have help with subjects in class or develop a new skill like drumming, cooking or knitting there is a club for you.

Most clubs are free to attend and for others a small charge is made to cover the cost of materials or to pay for someone outside the school to come in. For clubs where a charge has to be made it is important that it is paid before the club starts.

Numbers for each club are limited. If you are unlucky not to get into one we will put you on a waiting list so that you can be offered a place if and when one becomes available.

Cookery Club

Our after school cookery club is always very popular and great fun to make and eat delicious food.

Mrs Evans leads 5 or 6 sessions which are held on Tuesday’s after school. Throughout the year places will be offered to each year group from Year 1 to Year 6.

Each term the timetable includes:

Week 1                 Start the day in a healthy way

Week 2                 Soups

Week 3                 Hands-on food

Week 4                 Pizza, Pasta, Bread

Week 5                 Desserts

Week 6                 Kids’ choice– repeat, change or invent

We make one recipe in each session and at the end of the session the group sit together around the table, try the food and talk together about food and healthy eating.

Children learn a variety of basic skills essential to cook from scratch. This includes how to safely use a sharp knife.

The cookery club even have the chance to develop an exciting menu option which the School Kitchen will cook for the whole school.

Sample Recipe

Spicy Butternut Squash Soup

Soup:    2 Onions, peeled and finely chopped

2 tsp ground cumin (or to taste)

  1. Fry onion in oil until soft. Add cumin and fry 1 minute.
  2. Add stock and chopped butternut squash.
  3. Bring to boil and simmer 20 minutes.
  4. Blend and serve.

Y4 Girls and Boys starts after half term

Y5/6 Girls’ Football is on a Wedenesday

On Fridays, a Boys’ Year 5/6 football club is available to players of any ability, we encourage improving individual technique as well as being part of a team. We enter various competitions throughout the year and arrange both ‘A’ and ‘B’ team games, ensuring every child gets a chance to represent the school.

Mr Steventon is an external gymnastics coach with experience from the City of Bristol Gymnastics Centre.

The club runs in the School hall on Thursdays and pupils learn gymnastic skills, posture and balance.

Newspaper Club

Mrs Robinson runs the school Newspaper Club and describes it as “the best club ever”.

The club has already produced  editions of the ‘Headley Park Headlines’ completely written and set out by children in Newspaper club. Copies are sold on the playground to cover printing costs.

Our Primary School

Our children are fantastic, our staff are brilliant and we have a strong and active community of parents, friends and colleagues who all pull together to give our children the best possible education and experience of school. It is also great to be part of the Cathedral Schools Trust and to work with their South Bristol schools to the benefit of all our pupils.

Ahead of #roadsafetyweek, our children were outside school this morning asking drivers to #speeddown.

Help us by making a pledge, committing to improved road safety(comment below on what you can do to improve road safety around the school).
